NHSNYC Named 2023 Goldman Sachs Community Development Champion, Secures $100,000 Grant
New York, NY — Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City (NHSNYC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $100,000 grant through the Goldman Sachs Community Development Champions competition for the year 2023. This substantial grant is a testament to NHSNYC’s unwavering commitment to empowering communities and supporting low-to-moderate-income New Yorkers in their pursuit of homeownership.
Each year, Goldman Sachs hosts a competitive grant program for nonprofit organizations based in New York, New Jersey, and Utah that are making a difference in low- and moderate-income communities and provides the selected Champions with financial support to further their impactful initiatives.
In 2022, NHSNYC was awarded a $150,000 Community Development Champions Grant for its lending programs and services for low-to-moderate-income families across NYC to attain and sustain affordable and stable homeownership.
This year’s grant specifically supports NHSNYC’s Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) lending programs, which play a vital role in facilitating affordable housing solutions for low-to-moderate-income New Yorkers. These programs focus on empowering individuals striving for first-time homeownership and those working to maintain their homes through renovation loans and rehab/debt consolidation services. This investment will help ensure NHSNYC can reach more than 200 prospective borrowers with the goal of providing at least 65 loans to qualified clients to maintain their homes through necessary rehabilitation or renovations.
“We are honored to be recognized by Goldman Sachs through the Community Development Champions competition again this year,” said Derrick Griggs, Chief Executive Officer at NHSNYC. “This grant will significantly enhance our ability to positively impact the lives of New Yorkers by expanding our CDFI lending programs and addressing the critical housing needs of our community.”
NHSNYC expresses gratitude to Goldman Sachs for its ongoing commitment to community development and for acknowledging the importance of supporting organizations dedicated to creating lasting change. NHSNYC is one of forty-three organizations selected through this year’s competition. Learn more about the 2023 Goldman Sachs Community Development Champions cohort here.
