Job Title: Director of Lending

Salary Range: $120,000 – $130,000
Position Summary:
The Director of Lending oversees the development, execution, and management of lending programs that support community development and affordable housing. This role is responsible for establishing lending strategies, managing underwriting standards, and leading a team to provide efficient, mission-driven financial solutions. The Director of Lending collaborates with cross-functional teams, external partners, and community stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive lending strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission and financial objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the lending team, setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and supporting professional development.
- Identify market opportunities and innovate lending products to meet community needs, with an emphasis on affordable housing and economic development.
- Oversee the underwriting process, ensuring loans meet risk standards and compliance requirements.
- Monitor loan portfolio performance, managing risk, delinquency, and other key performance indicators.
- Build and maintain relationships with developers, nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, and other community partners.
- Act as a representative of the organization, promoting lending products and services that support affordable housing and community growth.
- Ensure that lending programs align with community needs and contribute to equitable economic development.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as internal policies.
- Prepare and present reports on loan performance, risk assessment, and impact to senior management and the board of directors.
- Develop and oversee internal controls to mitigate risks and ensure transparency in all lending activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Proficiency in credit analysis, underwriting standards, and financials.
- Knowledge of CRA, CDFI, and other community development programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree with five years (+) underwriting experience in corporate, consumer, mortgage or private banking lending or credit risk analysis.
- Must be eligible to meet requirements under the S.A.F.E Act.
- Experience working with low-to-moderate income populations, and/or community outreach.
- Proficiency using Ellie Mae Encompass, Excel, and Word, with a familiarity of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the lending field.
- Pipeline management experience is required.
- Two years of experience in a supervisory role.
- Experience working with HUD, FHA, and Conventional loans.
- Strong underwriting skills and ability to independently understand and communicate complex credit issues and analyze credit risk.
- Understanding of basic financial principles and processes.
- Applied knowledge of underwriting fundamentals and standard industry practices.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects.
- 25% travel throughout New York City will be required.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
- Self-Starter.
