Dear NHSNYC Friends and Supporters,
June is National Homeownership Month, and we at Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City (NHSNYC) work hard to make this dream a reality for families across New York City.
The path to homeownership is complex and unique for every family and individual, but NHSNYC’s certified homeownership counselors directly support homeowners at all stages of the process, offering pre-purchase and post-purchase education, financial coaching, and one-on-one foreclosure counseling. Our work is rooted in the philosophy that we want to bring you home and keep you home throughout the full cycle of sustainable homeownership, so you may continue to build equity and maintain your most important financial asset: your home.
Here in New York City, we are grappling with the realities of an ongoing housing crisis, from the shortage of housing to the severe lack of affordability. To address these issues, NHSNYC is creating the Open Access Fund. The Open Access Fund will help more LMI borrowers qualify to purchase a home in NYC. In 2021, NHSNYC helped 44 families avoid foreclosure. We are proud to say that number has already been surpassed in 2022 with our rehab & debt consolidation product and the training of our HUD-certified foreclosure counselors. While we celebrate the significance of Homeownership Month, we recognize there is still work to be done.
In addition to National Homeownership Month, NeighborWorks America celebrated its Annual NeighborWorks Week (#NWWeek) from June 4 to June 11. As a chartered member, NHSNYC joined in the celebrations through an online social media campaign and two virtual events: our Homebuyer Education Seminar on June 4 and our Landlord Education Seminar on June 9. I hope you were able to follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to learn more about our longstanding partnership with NeighborWorks America and its nationwide impact on protecting and promoting homeownership for families across the country.
On behalf of the Staff here at NHSNYC, I thank you for your commitment to our mission and your critical support of our work. You make our vision of realizing the best quality of life possible for each New Yorker, starting with a stable home, possible. We couldn’t do this work without you.
In partnership,
